So when I refer my child for Level III that is different from advanced math? How do I ensure my child gets Algebra in 7th?
You don’t. Advanced Math is not a guarantee of placement into Algebra 1 H in 7th grade. Your child needs to take Advanced Math in 6th grade. Your child must score in the 91st percentile on the IAAT. Your child must score a pass advanced on the SOL. If your child misses one of those things then there is a good chance they will not be allowed to take Algebra 1 H in 7th grade. Level III is different than Advanced Math. Most schools have some requirements for kids to be placed in Advanced Math, it may differ from school to school depending on the number of kids who meet the requirements. I think our school requires a higher grade in math and a higher percentage on the iReady. I suspect that they prefer kids with pass advanced on the SOL but there are a lot more kids in Advanced Math then pass advanced on the math SOL so I don’t think it is a requirement. I know that they try and balance the advanced math class in size with the other classes because it is its own class so they want at least 20 kids in the class.
