Do you have a big drop off from day 3 to 5? That speaks to male factor. Have you done the DNA fragmentation test? Testing for occult infections? Are you doing ICSI? Sometimes TESE can improve male factor issues. We were male factor for obstructive azoospermia and the ICSI/TESE totally fixed our problem, 8 blasts, 2 babies, 6 still in the freezer.
We talked with our doctor and she doesn’t suspect MFI. We asked about DNA fragmentation and she said we can test for it, but we’ve already been using the remedies so there’s not much of a point. We actually got 3 blasts from 5 fertilized eggs this time (different than the message she left us which is all I had when I posted this) but they were all of sufficiently low quality that they could not be frozen. She suspects the dreaded egg quality, for which there doesn’t seem to be a great solution other than going for more quantity. I’ve read some online about different ways to improve egg quality, much of which seems like pseudoscience. That said, we’re willing to try anything at this point and Shady Grove seems to be sticking with a pretty cookie cutter approach. FWIW, I’m 36 and have been TTC for two years. We did two IUIs last summer, an egg retrieval in October (fresh transfer, failed), one in January (PGT euploid frozen transfer in March, failed) and then another in April (no freezable blasts). I’m really at the end of my rope, this was a pretty terrible weekend to get that news. We are lucky that we still have three more tries through insurance but are seeing our dreams slowly slip away.
