We give allowance to teach about money. Once our kids hit 14, they no longer get allowance as they can learn about money via a job, which they are expected to get. We do not allow them to order food with their allowance.
Same here. My kids have always had to pay for their own stuff out of their own allowance savings. There have been regrets over frivolous purchases, and much better those lessons are learned as children with toys and stuffies than as a young adult with a car or expensive clothing. As teenagers, if they want to spend on doordash, that's fine. But they will have to deal with the consequences of not having enough for the other stuff they want. But what jobs are your 14 year olds getting??? My kids put their names in the neighborhood newsletter for law mowing and pet sitting but never get any replies. Most retail places won't hire until 16 at least. I'm pretty sure there are laws (in DCUM region) for that...
