Hi, I was looking at my DC(1'st grade) 'Winter 2023' iReady score report. His Maths was 97'th percentile and the reading was 79'th percentile. Within the reading category , he scored low on 'Vocabulary' and 'Comprehension Informational text' , his scores were 'Approaching expectation' for both. Is there anything i can do to improve his scores on these subcategories? He is a bright child and can reads books fluently , so i was surprised to see low scores on these subcategories and did some research. From FCPS Site, below are the definitions - Vocabulary --> Understanding the meaning of words --> Knowing the meaning of many words allows readers to reach a deeper understanding of the message being communicated through writing. Comprehension of Informational Text --> Understanding of what is being read in nonfiction text --> Being able to recognize the main idea, supporting details, and other elements of nonfiction helps readers effectively use informational resources they encounter in the real world Does the above mean. my DC (as per the test) is reading , but not understanding the meaning of what is being read? We are not native english speakers, so not sure if this is something that we can correct at home or are there any private tutor centers that improve his skills. Also will this impact his possibility of going to 'AAP'? When will the next iReady test be administered , will there be another one in 1'st grade? Thanks.
