Would a quirky/nerdy-ish student not fit in at Richmond?
If you asked for suggestions on where your quirky/nerdy-ish student should look, probably most would not suggest Richmond . It would be more like William & Mary or Swarthmore. However, I would say Richmond would be no different than lots of schools that have a work hard play hard mentality or ones that have big sports (though Richmond is less of that rah rah culture). While quirky/nerdy isn’t the overall vibe, there are quirky/nerdy students that attend but it may take a little more effort for them to find their friend group. I would also add that I attended a college with lots of smart kids that were likely nerds in high school but never would have called it a quirky/nerdy college. Kids reinvent themselves in college and they also grow and change. Anyway most kids meet their college friends thru their dorm, an activity where they spend enough time to get to know people and/ or has a social part to it, or friends of friends so as you look at colleges that aren’t the quirky vibe, you have to assess are there are enough people your kid has things in common with and how easy/hard would it be to find them.
