[quote=Anonymous]With kids gone, maybe no longer in the area, and lots of time on your hands . . . what do you do to keep social and active? I grew up in a VERY large immigrant family (on both my parents' sides) so they tended to stay close to home and support each other, socially, medically, etc., as they aged. Well, bluntly stated, they are all dying or have died. All of the "kids" (my age now) all scattered from our small, economically depressed, rust belt town. I'm glad we did (for jobs and so forth) but it does now seem isolating as we are getting into middle age, not having that built in support structure around us. We do have a couple family members close by. And, we had a pretty large circle of friends through school, sports, etc. when kids were little. But now everyone is sort of dispersed -second homes, visiting their kids, traveling- and socialization is not what it used to be. What did you do to get out and meet new people, do hobbies, etc.? This is the first time in our lives we haven't had some sort of structure (our own school, our kids' school and activities, workplace with active happy hours and things) that made getting out and doing things super easy.
