Unless ECNL is requiring McLean to merge, the club should just bail out now. If BRAVE indeed evaporates, McLean ECNL is instantly better off (without doing a thing), as all of the displaced BRAVE players will be trying out for McLean (and everywhere else) anyway. There is very little to be gained by actually going through with a merger with this dying club at the high cost of losing existing players and coaches. Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free? By going forward with the merger, McLean risks alienating all of its existing coaches - and any current players who don’t want to lose their coach. If there are some BRAVE coaches that Mclean likes (yeah, uh…) they will all be available soon. Kill the merger, post the coaching lineup, and ID session dates ASAP or risk losing current coaches and talent. Are there any real businesspeople looking at this for McLean?
the same could be said for any of the large clubs in these mergers. the soccer directors have long subscribed to a "new = better" marketing strategy knowing that american parents who know very little about the game will follow their lead. meanwhile the brand value of the legacy clubs is an afterthought (if thought of at all) and will never be recouped. this is what happens when club leaders let the tail wag the dog.
