We just spent a week at the Fairmont and it was glorious. Totally safe and a ton of fun. We did day trips to Chichen Itza and Tulum and felt completely safe everywhere. Not sure why you’d think the most touristy and expensive part of the country would be unsafe.
Not op but can you share what else apart from Chichen Itza and Tulum you'd recommend? We're also looking to visit that area this summer.
Well there is plenty to do at the resorts for several days at least. Bikes, boat tours, snorkeling, pools, beach, tennis, golf etc. we did a day trip combining Tulum and the Xel Ha water park which was a ton of fun - snorkeling, lazy river, cliff jumping, zip lines, huge water slides, etc. We had a great and exhausting day. We did a private tour to Chichen Itza which also included a visit to a cenote and lunch. Highly recommend doing that as our guide knew the right timing to get there before the crowds and heat and we had a blast.
