What do you mean by self defeating? I stopped drinking coffee and occasionally make myself a chai latte or green tea with honey. It’s been 4 months now. I don’t miss coffee.
What is the difference between an plain espresso latte vs chai latte? The latter has a lot of sugar. Same for black coffee vs green tea with 30g of sugar from honey to make it drinkable.
Depends on the reasons the person is giving up coffee. If caffeine is messing up their sleep schedule why would they care about sugar? I’m not a cold turkey person but I have tapered off my caffeine consumption since I had kids to keep my sleep schedule consistent. Sugary decaf tea or dessert doesn’t keep me up until midnight but coffee after 11am sure does.
