Oops, sorry - maybe that requires some clarification. Since the "age of television" the best looking candidate always wins (defined as the majority of the electorate who votes): 1960: Kennedy vs. Nixon (Kennedy is better looking and he won) 1964: Johnson vs. Goldwater (Johnson is better looking and he won) 1968: Nixon vs. Humphrey (both ugly, but Nixon slightly better looking and he won) 1972: Nixon vs. McGovern (Nixon never should have cheated, because he was winning anyway by a landslide. Both ugly, btw, and Nixon won.) 1976: Gerald Ford vs. Jimmy Carter (Carter had better hair) 1980: Reagan vs. Carter (Hollywood actor - and former Governor of the state of California? Better looking guy wins in a landslide) 1984: Reagan vs. Mondale (Better looking President humiliates unattractive challenger) 1988: George H.W. Bush is tall, intelligent, and imposing, Dukakis is short and famously would have spared a criminal that would have raped his wife. It turns out Americans don't like rapists. 1992: Clinton vs. Bush (tough because Bush has the attractive "old money" look, but Perot destroyed him on "No New Taxes"; Clinton wins (with WAY better hair) 1996: Clinton vs. Dole (the hair? case closed.) 2000: Bush vs. Gore (very close, very very close) Despite the screams of agony from the left, Bush did in fact win the electoral college vote. At this point in time (2000) who is better looking is a toss-up. 2004: Bush vs. Kerry - looks are no longer a toss-up. The election is tight, but Bush (better looking than "Lurch") prevails. 2008: Obama vs. McCain - despite that Sarah Palin is better looking than everyone else combined, this is about the Presidency, and once again Americans weigh in redoundingly on the side of the better-looking candidate, despite the fact that he's never held a real job in his life. 2012: Romney vs. Obama - Romney is not only an experienced business leader, but quite possibly the best-looking political candidate EVER (of any party, any election, any country, any recorded conflict where we actually know how good-looking the winner is). This doesn't even take into account how attractive and crazy-smart Paul Ryan is, vs. how ugly and embarrassingly stupid "Old Joe" Biden is. Oh, and WOW! Ryan is as cute as he is smart! :) The Uglycrats are toast. 2016: Romney/Ryan vs..... ?? Is Hillary still in the running by then? I like her, but frankly she's not going to be the best-looking candidate.
