I have a colleague's kid in my class with major behavioral issues. My admin has helped a lot, but the colleague is dragging her feet on some things and the admin can only do so much. At this point, the child is on their way to either an alternative or therapeutic day program for kids with severe behavioral and or emotional disabilities. I'm trying to be as kind as possible to both the child and the parent, it's just a lot. I feel really sorry for the parents. I don't have a question, just needed to vent.
Don’t see the more restrictive placement as something to be avoided - kid isn’t successful in a mainstream classroom but light be able to thrive in a different program. Do what you can to get them there - they clearly need more support that they can get at the moment.
I don't see it as something to be avoided. It's necessary. The student has harmed me and other staff repeatedly. They need a much more restrictive placement. Admin has been hoping student would respond to interventions and they have not. Parents, we suspect, have been unable to face the situation. It's painful for everyone. I'm crossing fingers that they are placed in a therapeutic or psychiatric program asap.
