Both of my children attend Fort Hunt. My DD moved there last year for the Spanish Immersion program and we were so pleased we pupil placed my DS into the school in the middle of the year. We are zoned for one of the "highly coveted" schools in the area, but I think my kids are getting a better experience at Fort Hunt. They are both very happy and are learning what they need to learn to be productive members of society. I have found the staff to be responsive and plugged in to what is going on in the classroom. Yes the school pulls from a broad range of income levels, but I feel it makes the school better. The PTA ensures everyone has an opportunity to attend afterschool activities by paying for a late bus during the week and a bus for all Friday night/weekend events. I like it and believe my kids are receiving a quality education.
what does it mean, "zoned for one of the 'highly coveted' schools in the area"? Do you live outside of the neighborhood? What process did you use to get your children into the school? Just curious. Do you like the spanish immersion? We feed into the school but i am nervous it doesn't really had value and takes away from fully mastering the subjects.
I think the poster meant her house was located in an area that would be zoned for one of the elementary schools that people seem to think are the better ones. Stratford Landing or Waynewood would be my guesses. You could opt out of going to one of those for whatever reason and go to Fort Hunt instead. It seems one of the reasons some people may do this is for the Spanish Immersion program at Fort Hunt.
