Recall petitions have been issued for the Charles Allen recall. It would be great if we could have an actual discussion about this without trolls getting it shut down again. I voted for Allen about 10 years ago. In the past two elections, I wrote someone in. I am feeling desperate for our elected representatives to take crime in DC seriously. I do not feel like Allen has the inclination or the credibility to move the needle on crime (and I think several of his policies have made crime a lot worse). https://www.hillrag.com/2024/02/13/board-of-elections-issues-petitions-in-ward-6-recall/
I live in the area. Crime is a problem. Allen isn't solely responsible for it - it's systemic issues at the Mayor's office, with MPD, with the AG's office, with lack of home rule, with some sub-cultural mores, the revoked crime lab and losing the faith of prosecutors, with numerous other factors. Allen is just one guy in the mix. Anyway, I like him for a lot of issues. Not signing a petition and (if your petition to recall actually makes it), I'll be voting to retain him.
