You are actually late for official programs. I think NASA, Mitre, NSA and others had fall 2023 deadlines. NSA offers school year internships. Does your kid have any actual skills? If not, you can see if you know anyone that works at like Bethesda Games in Rockville and see if they need a grunt.
Thanks! I think a paying retail job etc would be great too. He wants to focus on internships right now but if that doesn't work out, he will branch out.
Again, does your kid actually have STEM skills? Mine was paid to work at numerous start-ups, beginning after Freshman year of HS...he knows how to do a lot with 12+ computer languages, hardware/electronics, etc. The jobs with NASA, Mitre, NSA will all expect your kid to actually know how to do something...not just be interested in STEM. There are lots of kids from TJ, Blair, etc. who are fairly skilled, and those schools also have parents working at those places which helps too.
This was something kids did during college not high school summers.
Sure..20 years ago…I don’t understand your comment. All these agencies have summer internships specifically for HS kids but they do expect you to have some skills.
Just an observation. I think it’s kind of sad that it’s the case.
