NP here. Not to hijack thread but neither OP nor I nor many probably know the process for accepting a job when you have vacation plans. When exactly do you tell new employer? Before the offer? When accepting the offer? And do you have to say, I know it will be unpaid? Thanks
When you are done negotiating money you say, by the way, I have a previously planned week of vacation April 1-7, would that be an issue? They will say that’s fine (IMO) and then you say, great, and verbally accept. If it’s not in official paperwork (it hasn’t been for me) I just remind my new supervisor politely in an email while expressing excitement about starting the new role. Whether it’s paid will depend on leave policies. I haven’t asked upfront because I want the vacation no matter what.
