I just found out that a teacher at my kid's preschool is accused of spanking children. Apparently the school had the teacher on paid leave while they conducted an investigation. They said they found "no evidence." Then the teacher was supposed to return that day, but instead the investigation was reopened and the teacher is on leave again. I feel like the school was trying to sweep things under the rug and am glad to hear the investigation is open again. Right now I'm struggling with trusting the organization, whatever the result is. I also learned some things - like make reports immediately, and find out what you should do/who to talk to about concerns before there ever is an issue. Because the school wanted to throw out whole conversations that occurred between the teacher and parents, because "no administrator was there." Anyway, just wanted to share. Hoping for transparency from the school but also struggling now with trusting them in general. If I had unlimited funds I'd move my kid, but that's not realistic, and I'd like to believe the issue (if it happened) is isolated to that one other classroom.
How are they “sweeping things under the rug?” They investigated over several days and determined it didn’t happen. It sounds like when she was supposed to return, more evidence surfaced. Where are you getting your information from, ie the school wanting “to throw out the conversation between the parent and the teacher?” How do you know that?
I spoke with parents who shared with me what was in a Zoom meeting for those class parents with the administrators. Not all parents know the contents of the conversations that occurred and it seems they don't want parents to know what the teacher said (they said, "Yes, I hit Larla, but not as hard as I hit Larla."). (True story apart from the name changes!!!!) Well the administration said on the Zoom call that the conversation was a misunderstanding (without explicitly saying what the conversation included) because no administrator was there, only a teacher and parent. And the entire initial investigation was conducted BY THE SCHOOL. The day the teacher was supposed to return, we learned that an outside group had decided to reopen the investigation, so this time there will be direct reports (not filtered through the school HR).
