The first AP for most kids (at least at DCs HS) is AP World. A handful also take an AP Computer Science class. And now that there is AP Precalc, that’s an option for kids on that math track. Your DC should have gotten a course selection sheet that lists options, and the counselor is a good resource to verify what is available and appropriate.
AP World is very challenging. Hours of reading and note taking every single week. Do many people take it as their first? Sure. But it does not fit the bill of being an easier one to take. It’s a heavy writing/reading/testing class
Note-taking is optional.
I can only speak from my student’s experience but the notes were turned in as an assignment, so it was not optional in our school. It was an extremely time consuming class and my kid is an extraordinary student and speed reader. I am not saying people shouldn’t take it, just that if OP is looking for a low key AP class, this is not it.
Yes, but the point is that easy or not, at some schools, it is basically the only option most kids have in 10th grade. The only other realistic AP at DCs school (AP PreCalc aside as it is new and requires advanced standing in math) is Comp Sci which isn’t necessarily easier for some kids depending on their strengths/interests.
