I think you need a balance. But I also think that in this area (DMV), a lot of people are overly focused on always doing things and having plans, and I think it is either a symptom or the cause of a lot of the anxiety and unhappiness around here. That's why during Covid so many people actually embraced just staying home, spending time as a family, and relaxing. Doing stuff like baking bread, knitting, playing board games, puzzles, etc. Those are all normal ways to occupy your time and not that long ago, that's what most people would do (even wealthy people) most evenings, to relax and unwind. I hate the go, go, go of parenting life in the DMV especially, and we opt out as much as we can without harming our kid's social lives. But we genuinely just like lying around the house in the evening, making dinner (or heating up leftovers), playing a game, and reading books. We have friends who are dining out, going to shows, hosting or going to other people's homes, etc., 4-5 nights a week. That sounds hellish to me. I want to heat up some soup, play cards, watch a little TV, and then read a chapter from a novel and go to sleep at 9:30. Heaven.
