That's a ton of places. You could go to a beach on the east coast: Cape Charles is really popular with young families, water is shallow and there aren't big waves. The Adirondacks are nice with little kids. Lots of great spots but we personally love (Silver Bay, YMCA) where there are a variety of activities and day camp for kids (3 hours 8:30-11:30 am M-F)...lots of stuff outdoors, but doesn't require necessarily high energy stuff. You'd need to reserve lodging ASAP and it might be too late for a cabin, but maybe not for a room with meals included (I actually really enjoy them). Vermont is supposed to be awesome- tons of places to explore and lakes too, cute towns and you can be "foodies" together and try different cheeses, ice cream, apple cider.... We love Maine: Portland is terrific and Acadia national park is terrific but maybe too outdoorsy. Going south to Asheville is beautiful and it's a pretty cool city and you can go into the mountains and it's just really pretty. There's some lakes closer to VA that are nice (I much prefer natural lakes in the Adirondacks) but Smith Mountain lake isn't bad and you can pair it with a mini visit to Roanoke, VA ( little downtown and "center in the square" has a great children's museum). There's some beautiful spots going down through I-81 and if you head down to Grayson Highlands state park- it's gorgeous, cooler, and there's wild ponies (maybe too much with kids). Another state park that I love that has great cabins and is perfect for just relaxing on lake beach is "Douthat State Park". There's a playground right next to the lake and you can rent boats, go fishing, and honestly we often spend a lot of time relaxing right on the beach....the beach can get some nice shade and it's great for watching kids and reading. Hope that helps :)
