Not sure if this belongs here or in relationships, but here we go. I have a friend who lost a good bit of weight in the last year with an injectable. They were not excessively overweight before and now they are probably underweight. Every time we go out to eat they talk about how little they’re eating and how little they’ve eaten all day. How they’ve been losing hair and muscle. But also that they love being so skinny and are scared of putting weight back on. IMO they would have greatly benefitted from working with a nutritionist when starting the rx. They don’t eat healthier. They just don’t eat much of anything. They plan to stay on the drug forever but I can’t imagine how it’s healthy to sustain this. It’s gotten to where I’m making up excuses to not socialize over meals because I’m not interested talking about how they eat less calories than a toddler every day or how they’re always cold. I try not to engage in that conversation because while I think they seem unhealthy, it’s between them and their doctor. A few weeks ago they said they think they may have an eating disorder. I’m not sure if it was serious or in jest. But I think it was kind of serious. The other friend who was with us and I weren’t sure how to respond as they continued to reiterate how they were going to stay on the rx forever. I haven’t had the chance to see them since. Well, they’re pushing to get together over a meal again soon and I’m dreading it. I’ve been thinking of what they said ever since our last get together. I care about this person but also respect that they’re making choices with their doctor. I’m not sure my broaching the subject would be well received. Any efforts to talk about proper protein consumption, calories, etc, have not been well received. Wwyd?
