I like to imagine he legitimately didn’t know about the accent thing until recently and she’s just THAT good at her fakery.
And then by the time he discovered it, he was in too deep since he literally went on talk shows describing how exotic she is and how he “married a foreigner” and he’s just a tad too narcissistic to admit he was a chump who got taken by the lie so he just kind of adjusted and helped her cover with the whole “well I spent a lot of time in Spain…” explanation.

I think he saw what he wanted to see with her. He wanted Selma but got the Wish version instead. So he had to help improve the narrative.[/quote]
