Maybe it's just the case that in an urban area there are more places to get drunk so there's less appearance that the whole town is partying. Also, based on my own experience, party schools tend to have known, organized sources of heavy partying that people can head for (often Greek life) and there is a lot of alcohol-related vandalism. Excess drinking and universities have been entwined since the origins of the Western university. Last year I learned that Cambridge got started because of some fatal town vs. gown drinking-related incidents in Oxford. What's different about American party schools is the connection to team sport results. That makes party schools less fun for people who don't enjoy sports or getting plastered.[/quote]
