This has a much more limited impact on the planet, in terms of global warming from plastic yarn and clothing manufacturers, and fossil fuel pollution, since production requires less energy and much of a fur coat is biodegradable (linings are usually an artificial fabric).

If you wish to avoid both of these options, you can choose the traditional, closely-knit, woolen coat, since wool is renewable. Usually the wool yarn is a blend that contains acrylic, another plastic thread. It does not work so well in athletic applications.

So please try to avoid knee-jerk reactions to real fur. All our actions on this planet have consequences, and sometimes it's difficult to choose which one is the least damaging.
