Regardless, the argument that freshman football is needed in order to introduce kids to the sport doesn’t really hold water. Local rec leagues offer tackle football starting in elementary school. Never mind the popularity of flag football. Younger kids can and do pick up an understanding of the positions and the plays. I think as tackle football becomes less popular you’re going to see more resentment about the amount of resources it takes up. Other boys’ sports suffer at the expense of football because of the number of roster spots it eats up. [/quote]
