Kiddo would probably be able to offer a better answer than me, but we've been completely hands off since Fox Chapel because my kid is really great with time management, and I think that's key.  It is a long day... I think making the most out of study hall is super helpful, knock stuff out then.   Kid gets home, grabs a snack and does homework, then chats with friends or plays video games.  Always in that order.  Even on Fridays.  If it's been a busy week, some work on Saturday or Sunday.  We never set that schedule.  Days with sports are super long, sometimes kid goes to bed as soon as we get home and gets up at 5 to finish any work.  I really wish I had that kind of drive.  One other thing I perceive to be important is my kid is very comfortable talking to teachers.  During class. after class, in an email... whenever.  If there is a concept that isn't immediately understood, my kid will figure out a way to rectify with communication with the teacher.  Not shy at all.  I'm an introverted extrovert... I won't start a conversation, but it's tough to shut me up when I get going (look at all words up there :) ).  I think kiddo is an extroverted extrovert.  They've gotten really good at being the new kid.  Many sports teams, new peer groups at new schools along the way... kid figured it out somewhere.  I'm kind of a math/computer dork myself (and I got lost in the dust some time ago... kid can program python far better than I can these days... and I get paid for it.. lol)  I just make sure all the tools are available in the need arises... a good graphing calculator, a few raspberry pi's, a bandsaw, a robot (that was kind of for me).  Sorry, I rambled.  If you have specific areas or classes I can ask my kid and get their thoughts.  Good luck... First semester is certainly an adjustment.[/quote]
