Stay away at all costs. Put your kid in a different sport. It will bleed $ and time and unless you have the stomach for parent douchery politics it will be a big regret. If you believe in never getting involved. Keeping your mouth shut and not “advocating” or pulling out all stops to bulldoze your kids way: run! Run far! Soccer really is in a class if it’s own when it comes to meddling parents.
All sports are this way not just soccer. Jist do the sports your child enjoys. Baseball parents are just as nuts and involved. So are volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse parents.
^ This. We have been incredibly lucky to find a sport (soccer) our player liked, families that we enjoyed spending time with and coaches that truly mentored our player. It can be done. We did jump ship from several teams where we didn't find this, and worked to find a great place for our player. If you have a player who enjoys the sport, wants to develop and is committed then travel soccer can be a great pathway. Others have given good advice on the time and logistics.
