I don’t really know how it works, but I would think outside awards that the school system announces might be a bigger problem than school-based announcements. For example, if a student is a National Merit scholar (which is based on the PSAT), the school would probably just use the list of students that was given to them by the organization, and the organization might even publish its own announcements, independent of MCPS. I don’t know about the College Board’s current policy for preferred names, but when I took the PSAT (in the Dark Ages), legal names were required.  The entire culture has changed, so it might not be an issue, and I’m sure there are some kind of processes for cases like yours, but since confidentiality regarding your daughter’s identity is critical, I’d just recommend checking specifically on any similar situations that might be relevant and not rely on general policy.
