There’s a lot of variation in sizing where the regular meets the plus chart, and that’s where she is. So maybe you can help her with that if she doesn’t want to know her measurements right now. It’s also true that sometimes the XL is like, an S that’s been let out, but the 1X has different proportions and might be better even if you need to have it tailored a little. For example I just tried a Kut from the Kloth jacket and the XL had comically small pockets. I don’t think they change the pockets from XS-XL. But then the 1x plus version was pretty much the same size but with bigger pockets/better proportions. So that can really add to the overall size anxiety because of the psychology of being in a “straight size” vs a “plus size.”

The other big factor will be her height, because if she needs a tall size that also narrows the options.
