There is no lottery at the HS level. It is just an application. I think for IB you have to have some MS language. The process has become somewhat vague since they ended testing, teacher reqs, and significant essays.
Yes, they use things like standardized test, grades and an essay.
Don't honestly feel one standardized test is all that better than another. The CogAT would be great except many people get expensive prep which skews the results so in a lot of ways just using MAP seems to be more fair to everyone.
Good grief. Give it a rest with the false narrative of CogAT being more preppable than MAP. MAP is an exposure-based test, and is far more preppable than CogAT, which aims to evidence ability. That's true here and in every other thread where you repeatedly make the claim, jumping in with further logical-fallicy distractions whenever someone corrects it. I'm continuing to guess that you either are a parent with means who wishes to preserve the advantage your child might have from outside prep, should MCPS continue to use MAP for placement, or a shill for those tutoring centers, hoping to preserve the same for your clientelle so that you can market to that.
Yes! For Map-M, if you want to score higher, take more advanced math outside of school.
