My 6th grader is in private right now but I’d be ok with a 4 day week. Would give us an extra day for non academic pursuits. I have heard this “ push” locally though…. Where are you seeing it discussed?
Most parents are working and can’t take the time off to pursue non academic options. To be real, the non academic options would be youtube, tik tok and gaming for most kids. Many parent would have to pay for an extra day of day care. It would be a nightmare for many!
I’m the PP. we both work shift work. I work 12s and my spouse works 4-midnight Mon-Fri. Spouse also has a side gig. We’re not rich but we do ok and have money for extras. School was not supposed to mimic a full day of work. We understand that, we pay a sitter for the days we need help because that’s what we need to do. DD doesn’t have money for college but we’ll help her if we can..I think financial help should be provided to those who need it as far as after care, or before care etc. I don’t think school should be assumed to be free childcare so people can work though.
Ummm, if the county can’t even pay teachers and has to shorten the work week, how do you suppose they will be able to provide financial help for aftercare That makes no sense.
