We're a mixed Asian family, and always have a few huge bags on hand, because we have Basmati, jasmine, Vietnamese sticky and Japanese sushi rice all going at once. We have a low cupboard dedicated to rice bags of that size, and we usually keep the rice in the original bags and close them with large plastic clips. No bugs in the many years we've done this.
Asian family here - same. I always freeze flour for >48h, but have never had any issues with rice. I transfer the rice to 4 or 8 qt restaurant grade storage containers and the rest stays in the bag with a plastic clip until we need to refill.
