Like many schools, there is a huge line every morning for drop off at my kid's school. The school has placed cones and signs to create a "drop off zone" along the sidewalk in front of the school, so the idea is, as your pull up and your car is within the zone, your kid is to get out of the car there. The zone is pretty big, probably enough to accommodate 10-12 cars. Yet there are always parents that instead of pulling all the way up to the front of the zone, stop right in front of the door and let their kid out there. This holds up the line a lot-if every parent was to do that it would literally take 10+X longer to get through the HUGE amount of cars. Why do parents do this? Do they really think their kid is incapable of walking the extra 20 feet? FWIW, this is high school. I'm not talking about really little kids here.
Bad design of the school's part. At our school the entrance is at the head of the drop-off zone, so everybody is incentivized to drive all the way up if they want to minimize their kid's distance. Plus the principal stands there and greets each car. Last year, it was the principal together with the armed school resource officer. (How bizarre is this? America 2022/23.)
