Going pretty well for my 6th grade DS ASD/ADHD. Last year was extremely difficult for the first two months. His magnet school uses 5th grade as a weird "college prepping" point, and the shift from having homework once or twice a week in 4th grade to having 15 homework things to track at any given time.... it was so stressful. Add to that that we'd started an anti-anxiety during the summer, and we only found out after a few weeks of school that it was activating him (he was saying and doing extremely silly, inappropriate, things that got several calls home). The year did even out though. 6th grade has been good - far less homework requirements than last year. He also got in the advanced math class (two years ahead) and his old math teacher thought he was brilliant but likely to struggle in this setting because of disorganization... math started rough (25% on the first pop quiz) but turned it around and is doing very well. I told him this year i'd give him a month to figure out his 6 classes' expectations, where i would be tracking but not getting angry about missed assignments. And there hvae definitely been missed assignments but i'm sticking to my word. I'll worry about grades second semester. So this is one of the better years for us. fwiw, other years have been so bad he's had to withdraw from school. Last year, at his year end 504 meeting, the principal said he's super proud of DH and thinks he's complete on track for success in MS, though if we'd asked principal earlier in the year, he would never have said that. Thanks, i guess? But that just puts into perspective how rough it's been in the past.
