Donut hole families don't encourage their kids to submit 20+ applications to schools they know they wont' get merit to. That's $1500+ in application fees. Poor kids also don't apply to T20 schools in droves. Only those tippy-top students who have an adult (likely teacher/guidance counselor) who recognize their top level academics and push them to apply knowing they will likely get great FA. Your average kid in Iowa/Wyoming/Nebraska/Alabama is not applying to Harvard/Yale/Stanford/etc in droves, even the top students are largely applying to the state U, getting merit and attending the honors program. So even acceptance is skewed because those demographics simply don't apply like it's an everyday thing like the 1% do[/quote]
