Seeking recommendations for a math tutor or program for my 6th grader in the AAP math curriculum. Located in the Chantilly/Fairfax area. Primary need, to assist with homework load.
Finding a tutor before school even started = canonical example of helicoptering.
Or a parent who recognizes that their child struggled in math in 5th grade and maybe didn’t do as well as the parent would like who is trying to get ahead of the issue in 6th. There are kids who are stronger in LA that are accepted into LIV and some of those kids struggle with the accelerated math. DS is in Advanced Math at his school, we deferred LIV and there is/was no LLIV for his grade. There are kids in that class who are struggling with the math. Advanced Math becomes its own class in 5th grade so they need to balance the numbers for it. We had friends whose kids were in the class and struggling, I heard about it carpooling the kids places and heard parents worried that it was too much for their kid. This is why they really need Advanced Math and Advanced LA. Kids should be placed based on their strengths in one or the other or both. It would lead to a better fit for more kids and could actually replace LIV and LIII. It would be easier to teach at each of the ES and remove the need for a special certification to teach.
