With the changes and realignment across VHSL this coming year, there will be a shift in LC lax. Here are the changes and some context. 6a: Freedom SR: Been a good program for a bit, stable with good coaching. Where are Battlefield and Patriot these days, don't know much about those programs. By default the top 6a in LC 5a: 1) Riverside: Top school in the county with first rate coaching, many top players heading to the next level. Has been slowly losing ground to other programs. Will continue to dominate, at least this year. 2) Briar Woods: Size, speed and aggressive play, they lack some stick skill and lax IQ. Looks like a coaching change from the outside of the program, but pieces are there to challenge RHS again this year. Change in staff holds them back for now. 3) Independence: Flip side of BW- team lacks a lot of size and aggressiveness, but makes up for it in stick skills, lack of size holds them back. Looks like a coaching change from inside the program. Might be 2025 before they can contend. 4) Stone Bridge: Some gains and losses for this team, a mixed bag here. Can they catch IHS for the 3 spot? Move up 1 spot as Woodgrove is now a class 4. Not making it to #1 in 2024. 5) Potomac Falls: Team really struggled to do anything last year. See much of the same this year. Could be #6, but hold the 5 spot until Lightridge can show us something. 6) Lightridge: Newer program that is making its Class 5 debut in '24. Struggled at 4 should do the same or worse at 5. The 4's in LOCO are now split into two divisions> Catoctin and Dulles 4a Catoctin 1) Champe: Moves from class 6 to 4 this year. Should have enough players and experience left over to win this division. Long and successful coaching staff with an easier schedule. 2) Woodgrove: Moves from 5 to 4 this year, same with Champe has the player and coaching experience to carry them over as they transition. Just missing 5 Regionals last year should help them win this year at 4. 2a) Broad Run: Started very slow in 2023, but ended up going to class 4 state. Upward trajectory for this program heading into 2024. Might catch WHS or CHS for the top spot with their experience with the playing at 4 already. 4) Loudoun County HS: Previous poster said they lost a large Sr class already and it looks like the HC job is posted as open too. Rebuilding for a middle of the road team from last year has them in at the #4 spot. 5) Park View: Will they field a Varsity team? If they do, it will be locked in at 5 here 4a Dulles: 1) Dominion: Top team in 4 in LC last year. Like Riverside at 5, they seem to reload every year. May have lost a large Sr class, until someone knocks them off they are the #1 in this division. Have the luxury of the weakest LC division regardless of class 4, 5 or 6. 2) Loudoun Valley: Seems like every year (on paper), this is THE year and each year it falls short. Can they catch Dominion? Can they then get past CHS, WHS and BR above to win the region, that's a long road, so doubtful. 3) Heritage: Struggled last year to do much of anything. They get the 3 spot by default, (see Tuscarora) 4) Tuscarora: Much the same as Heritage. Team really struggled in 2023 and most likely will in 2024. Posting for whole new Varsity coaching staff has them at #4. 5) Rock Ridge- same as PVHS Will they field a Varsity team in 2024?
