I sometimes take those days off. Usually day 2 and 3, sometimes day 1 if I'm really uncomfortable. I fatigue incredibly easily when I'm on my period and when I do work out on those days, it's hard for me to get through a usual workout. Also for me it's more than just cramps (though those do hold me back bit). My body is just super tender and sensitive on my heavy period days -- very tender breasts, my skin often feels reactive. Sometimes just putting own a sports bra feels painful, much less trying to go for a run or get through a barre class. Sometimes I'll just throw on sweatpants and a loose t-shirt do a short yoga routine instead (like 20 minutes) and then some breathing exercise and lie on my acupressure mat. And I'll skip or half-ass any movements that don't feel good. Then a nice hot shower. It's less about getting in a workout than giving my body some TLC. I think movement is good, but I'm not going to do a bunch of split squares and dead lifts when I feel like crap. I think it's fine to take it easy. Obviously some people enjoy working out on their period or find I helps, but I think it's okay to give yourself a break if that's what feels right to you. Every body is different.
