I think it’s a fine arrangement FWIW if you’re son is friends with this kid and would enjoy the after school play date. Based on your post it sounds like about a 2/hour day window (30 min. for the pick up and 90 min. of watching kid). I’d give the nanny a bump for adding another kid so I’d offer $30/hour for that last 2 hours of the day to make it somewhat worth it for her. So call it $30/day for the other family to contribute. A few things you need to think through — do you want them to guarantee hours? Like if their kid is sick and doesn’t require pickup, do they still pay their $30/day. Or if your kid is sick and you need her at the house to watch your own son and not bring another kid over? What happens if you’re on vacation or nanny is on vacation? Normally nanny would get a day off if you’re out of town, so she may not want to be tied to this family for 2 hours those days. Also, what about school breaks, early release, etc? None of this is insurmountable. But I’d have a written understanding. Personally I think since you’re doing them a favor pretty much, the terms should be very favorable to your family in the nanny (e.g. your family gets priority for sick days or whatever). As for taxes, they should handle their own payroll. I’ve done a nannyshare and each family is considered a separate employer. At $150/week x ~40 weeks of school = they will pay about 6k/year, which is over the IRS reporting limit. They can input their employer taxes on their own tax returns and apply to any FSA accounts for reimbursement. For the 2 hours/day you split with them just report $15/hour. I used NannyChex and they were fine with me reporting different rates for certain hours. Ultimately this may not really be worth the hassle for everyone, so make sure to think through all the possible scenarios.
