While I wouldn't blame the first wife in these cirumstances, I think this context of a [i]very[/i] young marriage and immediate baby does matter. Creates a lot of stress for anyone, really. And certainly, publicly, there's never been a breath of any cheating or anything other than a solid relationship since he married Rita Wilson. More importantly, professionally he's extremely well regarded by other actors, directors, etc. Lots of behind the scenes stories (not told or promoted by him, so not self-aggrandizing) about how supportive and kind he is to young, lesser-known actors, when he could be a divo on set if he wanted.
