When I lived in Mt. Pleasant back in the 90s, my roommate and I had gay neighbors next door. No problem with that in and of itself, but one partner was abusive. Given what we heard (through the wall) and saw (in the form of the abused partner lying on the stairs all bloody), we probably should have called the police. My bedroom wall was adjoining theirs and I had to wear earplugs every night. "Go wash your ass, and this time use soap!" was one of the milder rants. Like I said, we probably should have called the police, but we were scared of the mean partner as well. "You bitches need to move your white asses to Georgetown" was one of the things he hurled at us. No problem, sir. Dealing with that, and then a mouse invasion, was enough to get us out of there. And yes, I did indeed move my white ass to Georgetown. Still here.
You saw someone laying bleeding in a stairwell and didn't call anyone? Like, an ambulance?
Had nothing to do with them being gay. It was def a domestic abuse situation. In the stairwell incident, there was a big commotion. A lot of neighbors came out to see what happened and my landlord, who lived in the bldg, ended up calling the police and ambulance. We were scared of the abusive partner. He was a big guy, I would say over 200 and at least six feet. He would say weird things like "Can't we all get along" (a la Rodney King) and "You ladies should come over and we can all have us a weenie roast." Whatever that means. Wanted to have as little contact us possible. From what we could tell it was a codependent relationship. The police came to their door many times.
