DS flaked on a potential job offer and now has nothing for the summer. It was very flexible which he needs for his sporadic sports schedule and our vacation plans over the summer. DH & I really want him to get some form of a part-time job because he becomes very dysregulated when he has limited structure. What can a newly turned 15 y/o do if they can't work or don't have a ton going on. I'm struggling to come up with some ideas.
I would look at the establishments around your home and drive to each at a non-prime hour to ask. That is exactly how my son got his job. The third place we walked into hired him right on the spot. I made sure he brought his resume, ID, and social security JIC. He loves the place where he works. If you are unsuccessful at finding your son a job this way, could you, your husband (family members and friends) inquire if their office is offering intern positions? My office doesn't pay for internships, but the name sounds great on college applications and future job endeavors under experience. My daughter interned at my office for the experience (under a different department). It was very flexible and she actually had interesting assignments. My son will be doing an internship at my husband's office next year. Your son would not be getting paid, but he would get the structure you are looking for, plus experience and service hours (if you work for a non-profit).
