Question for those with MDIPA coverage (Federal). DH and I opted to have genetic testing on the aborted tissue after our D&C. [Aside: This turned out to be good for us emotionally, as it provided some closure to know that our m/c was due to a chromosomal abnormality that is incompatible with life.] Because the lab used by my RE for this test is out of network, my PCP had to submit a request to use an out of network lab for the tests (I have no idea why the request needed to be made by the PCP, but it did). I just got a letter saying that our request was denied because the services are available at Labcorp which is in network. Searching on the test menu at the Labcorp site, these tests do not appear to be available there. I did not check this before due to our emotional state, but I also assumed that my RE would not send my samples to California if there were a place down the street that did the testing. I think that due to MD law (does it still apply to me if I live in VA?) they can't charge me very much for the test, but it's still a few hundred dollars that I'd rather not pay out of pocket (esp. while the IVF bills still keep rolling in and while we're preparing for another round of IVF/ICSI). The letter from MDIPA says I can appeal through OPM. Has anyone done this before? What did you need? And were you successful?
