I assume everyone on this thread is against dress codes in HS. I am personally but if you believe schools should have a dress code then I don’t see how you can argue that this kid can wear whatever they want to graduation.
I’m fine with schools not having explicit dress codes. They’re often misogynistic anyway. My children’s high school (not in DMV) doesn’t have an explicit dress code. They have guidelines that include respectful and decent attire (no hate messages, no exposed private areas, shoes and clothes appropriate for being active on PE days). We just got the full packet of graduation information for our senior, and there’s literally no mention of what to wear under their graduation gowns. I graduated in the 1990s and the trend my senior year, at least at my school, was to wear pajamas under our graduation gowns. I don’t know why and I thought it was dumb but all my friends wore pjs so I went along with it. Some of the teachers and admins made comments about how they were surprised we didn’t want to dress nicely for such an important day, but didn’t try to forbid it and turn it into a power struggle. Who cares what’s under their gowns? Who cares if trans kids want to express their gender identity through fashion? I thought all the band were about protecting kids from irreversible medical treatment, not about trying to keep them from being trans. This is purely transphobic.
