.. from the mouth of the father of a baby who lived all of 99 minutes due to abnormalities. The mom could not get an abortion in FL even though she asked for one. The hospital stated that because the baby had a heartbeat, and it was past 15 weeks, they could not perform the abortion. They had to watch their baby gasp for breath for 99 minutes before the baby eventually died. And to top it off, they had to pay for the medical bills that came with the delivery, and the funeral costs. This is what Rs have done to the parents and babies.
Now, he was haunted by the sound of Milo gasping for air and the sight of his body struggling to ward off a death that had been inevitable for three long months. "To me it's just pure torture," Rogell said. "The law has created torture." In the midst of that uncertainty, Deborah has endeavored to find some purpose in Milo's short life, sharing the story of her pregnancy as broadly as she can, even as she has watched Florida legislators move to restrict state laws around abortion even further. It surprises family members to see Deborah take such a public stance. "I always thought of her as my shy child," Rogell said. But Deborah wants other people to know what happened, how politicians intervened in decisions about medical care with a law that made doctors fearful of terminating even hopeless pregnancies.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/short-life-baby-milo-161039981.html
I really feel for this woman, but why the hell is this article placing such an emphasis on her father’s feelings? Her father - he of the no “elective abortions” - voted for the people that did this to her. She loved him enough to include him in the delivery room- suggesting that she probably shared his beliefs. He held out hope that the torture he put his daughter through would result in a “miracle” and was willing to gamble his daughter’s life on it. Instead, the doctors were right, God failed to show, and the whole experience resulted in utter devastation and unnecessary trauma for a family and their 4 year old. This woman is fortunate she survived her ordeal, many do not. How many stories about dumb Republican white women do we have to read? Yes, the suffering is the point. No, they don’t care until it happens to them. Yes, it’s a tragedy but maybe we need more like these to happen to people who chose this result instead of innocent people who didn’t.
