There are several threads on New Orleans that you should search for. Restaurants have been covered extensively. Make reservations well ahead of time, as New Orleans has events and festivals many weekends and hotels and restaurants get booked quickly. As for hotels, my favorite is the Windsor Court, but it might not be within your budget, unless you go on an off weekend and get a deal. I like it because it has an enclosed courtyard that you drive into to access the hotel, and it’s very safe. Which gets to my next point… I love New Orleans, and used to go there several times a year, so I say this with great sadness. Be very careful. Crime is out of control there. Stay in a group and stick to the well trodden paths in the French Quarter, Warehouse District and Garden District.
PP here — I found an old thread and this is a list of restaurants I posted there: Depends on what you want — some of my favorites: Traditional Creole: Galatoire’s (check dress code for men) Commander’s Palace (ditto) Antoine’s (I haven’t been there in a while, but it’s worth it if you can get them to show you the Mardi Gras memorabilia and the wine cellar) Slightly more modern take on classic Creole: Herbsaint Caribbean: Compere Lapin (chef also has a new restaurant called Bywater American Bistro that has made some “best” lists, but which I have not yet tried) More casual: Cochon Peche This seems to be a good list including some that sound great that I haven’t had a chance to try (and considering that most of my favorites are on it, I trust their source): https://www.cntraveler.com/gallery/best-restaurants-in-new-orleans
