Long into your parent acct, they’re posted now
7th grader scored 82/120. Not sure what to make of it.
As another poster said, the website will list your national/state percentile. However, since in the US so few children take Math Kangaroo (in 2023, there were only 2585 7th graders out of roughly ~4M students in this age group), the percentile scores have limited meaning. Since MK is international and by and large reuses the same problem set, however, you can get a better idea of your child's relative standing by comparing to countries where a larger group of students takes the test. For instance, if you look at the 2023 results from Germany, where 71,626 students took the 7th grade test this year, you'll find that about 2,100 of them scored more than 80, or about 3%. (Looking at the ranges in parentheses - like in some international versions, the Germans deduct penalties for wrong answers which is the first score range.) I'm sure your child's national U.S. percentile is much lower than 97%. It is of course possible that the Germans are just so much dumber than us, maybe they listened too much to Jo Boaler (just kidding), but in reality there are entire schools in Germany where the PTO pays the registration fee and the entire (or most of the) school takes part. They're nowhere close to 100% participation though.
Right, the average US MK competitor is better than the average German MK competitor due to selection effects
