IU and Purdue are both land grant flagship schools. (Disclaimer: I am an IU grad) Both schools have a large Greek system, the both have lots of sports to root for and both have giant lecture hall classes at the 101 level. The PP posters are correct that Purdue for STEM and Ag and Veterinary medicine. IU is better for everything else. IU has the Med and Law Schools. In my opinion Bloomington is a prettier campus and a better college town. Bloomington is also located in a prettier area of Indiana. (Yes there are pretty areas of Indiana) The areas around Bloomington are rolling hills with lots of state parkland. West Lafayette is surrounded by farmland. As far as politics go, Bloomington is an island of blue in the sea of red. West Lafayette went blue in 2020 but only by about 1%. Indiana enacted an almost total abortion ban but it has been stayed by the courts at the moment. My Indiana high school graduating class was about 340. About 60 went to IU about 60 went to Purdue. I have HS friends who went to both. I think if your kid is going to be a STEM major Purdue is the way to go. If your kid wants another major or is not sure IU is the way to go.
