Obama's a child who decided he won't play with the mean kids (Reps) because they don't play nice.  Presidential bully pulpit and influence is enormously powerful if used right.  He's just chickenshit to not get his elbows and handshakes dirty by not taking advantage of it.  Read up on LBJ's hawk stare and getting into your face to get Congress to do what he wanted.

BTW, this is grossly simplified (but apt, imo, because it boils it down to essentials), but ever see Conan the Barbarian?  The bad guy says in one of his monologues that he gave up "power of steel" for real "power", where he can simply tell someone to committ suicide and they'll do it without any threat of force.[/quote]
