I read about this but I don’t understand why it’s better, can someone explain why it’s better? I understand the general rules of baseball but only as a casual fan.
Basically pitchers and batters dawdle. It’s become part of the game - stepping out of the box or off the mound, walking around, adjusting your gloves or other bits. Each at bat takes 20 seconds or so longer than it used to…and over the course of 9 innings that adds up. The pitch clock gives a reasonable deadline on the dawdling.
I agree. I am a HUGE fan of the pitch clock so far. I think the umps need some more time to get all the fine points dialed in and some of the players don't seem to fully understand the rules and how they are being applied but I think as the season progresses, that will all settle down and be for the better. I also like the larger bases and the pitcher being limited in how many times they can throw to pick off a runner - that will help with advancing runners and making things more exciting. Unless a game is going into extra innings, there is no reason to be going over 3, 3 and a half hours so I'm glad that this is now a thing of the past.
