There is no numerical cutoff, every child is evaluated "holistically" compared to their individual neighborhood school peers, so it is quite possible that your child would be found eligible applying from one area but not in another (once they are found eligible, you can move wherever you want and the eligibility transfers with you). You need to reside within FCPS to apply, so if you haven't moved yet I believe your child will need to complete at least a semester in GenEd before AAP is possible, unless you go to a place where they receive a guest slot from the principal. Sleepy Hollow ES is an autism services hub I think and has local level IV, very positive, charming community with great staff. May be worth checking out? Lake Barcroft neighborhood is gorgeous too if you have the budget.
This is OP. The website is clear that my daughter needs to be registered at a school before I apply, but I did not understand she needs to complete a semester in gen Ed before she transfers. That’s not a good idea for her. I don’t want her to change schools twice. Change is VERY hard for her. Thank you for your help.
Normally it takes time to process the application and I think they like to observe the child which is why there is some time in Gen Ed. Was she identified as needing advanced services in Arlington? FCPS normally honors the services from the counties within Virginia. So if Arlington had designated her for GT services in Arlington she might not have the wait.
